Team Logos

The logo side of custom leagues is one of my favorite parts of it. I like to play around and see what I can do, but my skills are somewhat limited.

So.. a few things..

1) Unless we have someone like cuervo in our midst and I don't know it, I'm guessing the logos are going to come from a mixture of people/sources. I think we need to get some standards for how we do this. Personally I was trying to start with a 256x256 square and then we can work down from there (this standard I pulled from what VPI has on the IHOF site).
2) We need to start setting colors. I dont' thinkw e want to have a bunch of teams with the same colors.
3) Anyone have advice on making logos? My biggest problem is getting them as "crisp" as cuervo does. They always just seem to look amateurish.

Anyway.. I'll put a spreadsheet together to start tracking colors, etc...

Before giving up, I would add some black to the yellow... that is, particularly in the mouth, have a black edge on the yellow between yellow/purple and yellow/white.

I’m pretty satisfied with the Great Danes logo and colours. If you can replace the blank spot with a big “C” it would be great. If not just fill it out to match the rest.

The .bmp is the original, the .jpg and .gif are conversions and seem to have more colors than needed. The colors and stars are taken from the flag of Curaçao from Wikipedia, so those are pretty much a must. The yellow stripe idea is also taken from the flag.

NP. At some point I'll work on changing the colors of the lettering too, when I get past the stage of making all of the basic logos.

LS did your logo in what is called "vector" format... what that means is he should be able to shrink it and have it not get "fuzzy" like that logo is...

Yeah, I'll try to play with that...

Not trying to shut-down your idea, it's just that the general rule to me is that sports logos have two key things about them:

A) Flat colors. If there is "shading" it is done via a darker, flat color.
B) Max of 3-4 colors. I don't know that I've seen any/many with more than that, most have 2-3.

This is the one I prefer. Javelina are kind of dumpy and not very threatening at all. This pic conveys that more than the razorback style logo.

Well, again, I'm modeling this right now after what cuervo/VPI have done over at IHOF. These 256x256 logos are merely flat models of what will be on the helmet. These can then be easily used for banners, other logos, etc. without having to cut out "unnecessary" items...

I'm more than willing to do this as we work towards that, but I just want to make it clear why I'm starting with these logos here. Even when I add the Camargue Flamingos piece that you're asking for, I'd still want to have this out there as the "base" image.

I'm a bit frustrated with the background color - I know that I said (and meant) copper, and I'm guessing that the metallic sheen is probably what makes the eventual difference between copper and that more plain-looking orangey background (not your fault, I think I was being unrealistic). If toying with the background color is possible, I'd like to do so a touch... maybe try out a dark brown, or even a dark maroon color, either of which I think would go with that logo better. (I'm actually thinking that the initial graphic was a poor choice, but I'm glad you were able to work with it)

The other thing I want to do is something similar to the bengals that they have an actual "logo" to use elsewhere rather than a square of Cheetah Print (for them it's just a B with some stripes, I may do something similar with a C)...

I wanted just the monk guy, but in the image there's no real definition at the bottom, sot hat's why Id id the words.. If it ends up too busy on the helmet, we could maybe just throw him in a circle or something...

Here is a flat example of my basic thought for the Shivs helmet. The question is how well it translates to the helmet.

The idea being that it's a helmet like Alabama's where the number of the player is on the side of the helmet.

Still not sure about the non-helmet pic, but as for the helmet itself -- it looks like a near-copper brown is pretty good for a background, even without much metallic sheen, and I'm happy with this color combo for the Hawk Mountain Sharpshins.
