New Banner

I'm not sure if anyone has completely decided on who we're going to have on the banner to replace Kreuger, but I have heard some thoughts on using the Doggie Bowl MVP, Lincoln Anderson. I took some pictures for it, so who should I send it to?

Do you guys update the banner yearly? Or just when you feel its time for a change?

Well, we've only had the banner for just under a year, so...

But the plan is to swap out the player pictured once a year using an award winner from the prior year. There has also been a suggestion of making it rotate, but that's a bit down the priority list right now unless Ant has something cooking he hasn't been talking about.

Okay done. And I agree it would be neat to see rotating award winners. I believe vbulletin has a mod for a rotating banner for the forum. And I can look into something for the main page unless we want that to remain static to reduce load times.

I do agree that the text is a bit small for that font, and it's tough to read at a glance.

Yea, I took the pic and it's "supposed" to be from the Doggie Bowl. I did my best to make it as "doggie bowlish" as possible.

I especially like how the Raleigh player is just lying on the ground while he hurdles down the field on his 55 yard run. Sigh (at the players, not the photographer).

The more I look at it, the more I'm puzzled by the field arrangement in that new banner. Where the heck is the play taking place on the field?!?

My guess is the bastard is near my 30 or 35 yard line, and the camera is placed ahead and to the right pointing back at him.

We have the ability to have a random banner show up each time you visit the forum. How does this idea sound?

1. Create a league MVP and Doggie Bowl MVP banner for each season.
2. From the time of creation of new banners each season until the beginning of the regular season, those two banners fly exclusively.
3. From Week 1 to the Doggie Bowl, we use random banners so that past champions/stars are honored up top as well.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I have no idea how many days that encompasses. I'll check now...

I think something like that would be cool. I like having the Bowl MVP for the offseason as it also reminds you of the bowl winner, and then having past award winners (Bowl MVP, League MVP, maybe offensive/defensive POTY, maybe offensive/defensive ROTY) cycling for the regular season and playoffs helps overall league awareness.

This sounds like a pretty good split. I suspect that our schedule is pretty much as it will be for a very long time now, so I think this is representative of what to expect. From Doggie Bowl V to Week 1 is 23 days, and from Week 1 to Doggie Bowl VI is 43 days.

Yeah....I mean, I'm just throwing it out there. I'm not the guy who makes the banners. Doing it on the forum end of things is easy for me. (1. Download and install hack--3 minutes. 2. Point to location of banners--30 seconds.) The work is in making the banners.

If we stick with the same wrapper, it won't take long at all. The only thing I have to do is change out text and the background image, which takes little time.
